Our classes are safe and non-competitive with an emphasis on creating a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in order for all to learn Budo Taijutsu. Our dojo provides you with a quiet setting to learn this traditional martial art.

Bukeyashiki Dojo, teaches self defense techniques (standing and on the ground) from a formal, traditional and realistic standpoint. We offer training in traditional samurai/ninja weapons: Sword, Knife, Stick (hanbo, bo, jo, kutoban), Yari, Naginata, shuriken, rope, shuko, gun, etc. We practice ukemi (rolls and falls), balance, striking, grappling, distancing and awareness and more.

Monthly "Themed" workshops will be given to our students in order to cover advanced techniques and allow the student to further advance his/her knowledge of this art. The student to teacher relationship is essential in order to develop and prosper in this martial art and our instructors work together with the students in order to maintain a close relationship. Click here to read some of our student testimonials.

Personal achievements and goals are awarded to the students by rank that they have earned. We are NOT a black belt factory. Black belts can be purchased anywhere. Here at the Bukeyashiki Dojo they are earned. Our school motto is "You are responsible for your own training" and it's a motto that we take very seriously.

What can you expect on your first day of training, well to start off wear comfortable clothing, take your shoes off at the door, walk in with an open mind and smile. You have just entered a safe place. The rest will come day by day. When you train in martial arts you gain so much. Some of the main benefits are:

Mental Steadiness for increased focus and concentration

Imagine what it would be like to have more concentration in your life. Training in the martial arts is inherently challenging. In order to perform the movements of martial arts you must have focus. You cannot generate power without focus. For children, having more focus and concentration leads to increase success in schoolwork. Focus consists of having four elements in harmony with each other. These elements are the eyes, ears, body and mind.

Emotional Power for a self confidence and assertiveness

Self confidence is believing in who you are. There is an inner presence to people who train in the martial arts. The very knowledge that you are able to defend yourself no matter what the situation is a pretty powerful mental force. Kids who train in the martial arts do not get bullied and it's not because bullies fear them, rather its because of the way the carry themselves socially.

Physical Fitness for a lifetime of health

The martial arts workout is a unique blend of stretching, strength conditioning and proper body movement. When you combine all of these different ways of training into one workout your body benefits from this by becoming lean and flexible. The workout keeps your body healthy over the course of many years. Martial arts, focus on preserving the body and focus on longevity. When you first enroll, you will come into class feeling stressed from your busy day. But you will soon realize that after every class, you will feel loose and nimble, physically stronger, and most of all energized. The most appealing aspect of this type of training is that you don't have to spend hours to get in shape but rather you get a WHOLE body workout while learning actual martial arts.

Not all martial arts schools are created the same

Choosing the right school for you is a bigger decision than you think You have so many choices when it comes to enrolling in a martial arts school. Choosing the right school is an important decision.

Here is why: when you enroll in a martial arts school you will be spending time, money and effort at the school. You want to make the right decision from the very beginning.

Why YOU must check out our school

First, when you start classes at our school you will not just be a number in the crowd. We are a family oriented school and not a franchise. We know every single student's name in our entire school, and you will soon know everyone's name as well. All of our students know each other's names. I have been to some schools where students are working partner drills with each other and they don't even know each other's name!

Second, everyone trains in the martial arts for different reasons. The truth of the matter is that the only way to get you the benefits that you are looking for is to make every class personalized for each student. But how is this possible? Well, when you come to class it is my job to find out what kind of learner you are. Some people learn very well through verbal instructions while other students may learn from having me physically go and move their arms in the correct position. Others may learn best from seeing some of the advanced students perform movements.

The most important thing to look for when starting martial arts classes, is a good instructor who you or your kids are going to feel comfortable with.

There are no fitness requirements. All types of people can benefit from classes regardless of age or experience. My expectation is that you progress at your own pace. What matters is that you get started as soon as possible, and stop putting off your training because life gets in the way. There will never be the right time to join. We want you to stop putting this off and do what you always wanted to do....come join our martial arts school. I've talked to many people and one of the common response was, "I've always wanted to join a martial arts school but I was putting it off. I am now older and I want to experience and gain the health benefits that martial arts give you."

If you are a total beginner, or someone who wants to enroll your kids in classes, we have the right kind of martial arts lessons for you.
