Bujinkan Bukeyashiki Dojo

Our Dojo

At Bujinkan Bukeyashiki Dojo we teach Budo Taijutsu for the purposes of self-defense from both a traditional and contemporary point of view. We have a safe and relaxed atmosphere that is inclusive and accepting of all types of people from all types of ages and backgrounds.

With more than 50 years of combined experience, our instructors are trained to help you unlock the mysteries of Budo Taijutsu and start you on the path to achieving increased confidence, awareness, concentration, flexibility and more.

We provide instruction to children, young adults and adults, tapering lessons to the needs of each student through classes specific to their individual age groups. Students are not just be a number in the crowd here at our dojo. They become part of our family. We know every single student by their first name.
Bujinkan Bukeyashiki Dojo
We believe strongly in personal responsibility and honor. We are NOT a black belt factory. Black belts can be purchased anywhere. Students at our dojo will only receive what they deserve and they are expected to work for their rank.

Our school's motto is "You're responsible for your own training" and we take that saying very seriously. Students will receive guidance and instruction, but where they take that knowledge will utimately be up to them.

The Training

All of our classes stress a foundation of training that allows the student to avoid injury. To accomplish this, we teach rolls and falls (ukemi), balance, distancing, timing, angling, awareness and avoidance.

In our Little Ninja (ages 4-9) class, we focus on fitness, flexibility, balance, coordination, discipline and confidence. Various games are used to deliver these lessons and all teaching is meant to enforce those aspects of the art. Students also practice light punching and kicking excersizes.

The Martial Arts Training In our Adult (ages 13 & up), class we expand on that training to incorporate advanced striking (punching and kicking), grappling (ground combat), and defence against various weapons. Weapon training includes both traditional Samurai and Ninja weapons (sword, stick, yari, naginata, shuriken, rope, shuko, etc.) as well as contemporary style weapons (knife, gun, etc). Our dojo has safe replica weapons available for this purpose.
On the first day of training, expect to be welcomed into a family by our instructors and fellow students. There are no expectations or requirements to perform. Come with comfortable clothing, martial arts shoes or socks, an open mind and a smile. The rest will come day by day as the secrets of this wondeful and mysterious art are unlocked.

Budo Taijutsu

As one of the few surviving complete martial arts, Budo Taijutsu is a realistic combat system that predates Judo, Karate, and Taekwondo. This traditional martial art was founded in the lore of the mystic warriors of feudal Japan, the Samurai and Ninja, and to this day remains pure and undiluted by tournaments and artificial rules.

Budo Taijutsu consists of 9 different schools of training refered to as Warrior Schools. Some of these schools, such as Togakure-ryu, are said to date back earlier than the 1500s. Each school's teachings were kept secret, passed down from generation to generation. The Martial Art of Budo Taijutsu
Massaki Hatsumi inherited information about these 9 Warrior Schools from the late Grandmaster Toshitsugu Takamatsu, perhaps the last true living Ninja. Today, he continues to share his vast knowledge and wisdom of this art several times a week to instructors who come to Japan from around the world.
